Canada: Suspicious Fire Claims Lives of Indian-origin Couple and Teenage Daughter in Ontario
An Indian-origin couple and their teenage daughter tragically lost their lives in a devastating fire at their home in Canada’s Ontario province on March 7.
The victims, identified as 51-year-old Rajiv Warikoo, his wife 47-year-old Shilpa Kotha, and their 16-year-old daughter Mahek Warikoo, were found dead in their residence on Big Sky Way and Van Kirk Drive.
Peel Police initially reported the incident as a residential fire but later deemed it suspicious, launching an investigation in collaboration with the homicide bureau. Eyewitnesses recalled hearing a loud explosion before the fire consumed the house, adding to the mystery surrounding the incident.
Subsequent examination of the scene revealed human remains, later identified as belonging to the deceased family. Rajiv Warikoo, a former volunteer with the Toronto Police, had his term end in 2016. Mahek Warikoo, known for her talent in football, was remembered by her coach as a promising player with potential for scholarships at prestigious universities in North America.
The tragic incident has left the community in shock and mourning the loss of three lives.
